Welcome
Who We Are:
For a message from our Senior Pastor Dean Francis, click here.
First Church is a vibrant, accepting congregation that welcomes all who seek God, inclusive of age, race, education, economic status, sexual orientation and special needs. Through worship, Christian education for all ages, fellowship, and mission opportunities for children, youth, and adults, we seek to grow in faith as disciples of Jesus Christ and to work for justice, peace and mercy in the world.
For more than 150 years, First United Methodist Church of Evanston has been a community of Christians inviting all people to grow in their relationship with God and to live their faith in the world.
Our History:
We have a rich history and heritage. Former pastor Ernest Fremont Tittle's dedication to ecumenism in Christianity brought the World Council of Churches to First Church in the summer of 1954, hosting 600 delegates from 48 countries. By the 1960s, FirstChurch was a national leader in open housing, school desgregation and the Vietnam antiwar movement during the 1960s.
We continue that legacy today.
Our website is a great way to become familiar with our congregation and all we do. We would love to hear your questions and comments.
