Worship FAQ’s

Where is worship?

We gather for 10:30 a.m. worship in the First Church sanctuary during the fall, winter and spring. The service is also livestreamed for those who opt to participate online. The YouTube link appears above.

Do I need to be aware of any safety protocols?

Yes. All persons are checked in as they enter the building, and everyone over two must be masked. In the sanctuary, seating is socially distanced by household or pod. Our sanctuary is very large, and there is plenty of room to spread out on the main floor and in the balcony. We take the health and safety of all persons very seriously.

Are children welcome in worship? Is the service family friendly?

We love having children in worship, along with their sounds and wiggles. You are welcome to keep your children with you in the sanctuary, or to sign them in to the nursery or to Children’s Chapel (ages 3-4th grade) or Connect56 (grades 5 & 6). Children of all ages are welcome to the Time with Young Disciples, a part of worship designed specifically for them, on the chancel steps. After the TWYD many children will go up to the 3rd floor for Children’s Chapel. Note that all children must be signed in and out of programs by a parent or guardian.

How can I make a financial gift to the church?

Use the link above to give online via a credit card or leave a check or cash in the offering plate as you exit the sanctuary. You may also drop a donation off during office hours or mail it to First UMC, 516 Church St, Evanston IL 60201.

Is there coffee?

Indeed. Immediately following worship we have an informal fellowship time on the Hinman Ave. lawn, with coffee and a cold drink. During non-pandemic times we typically have goodies to eat, but we are taking a break on the refreshments for now.

Where can I go for more information?

Our Welcome Spot, which is set up outside during after worship, is a great place to go and talk with a volunteer. You can also drop by our church office before worship, or reach out to our membership director anytime at mary@faithatfirst.com .
